Dad, What Were the 90s Like?

-The 90s were characterized by a merciless mercy and a silent speech.

Dad I don’t understand.

-The 90s were the time I first took the measure of my right hand, by clasping it in my left.

Dad, I mean the 90s.  I cannot follow you.

-The 90s were a time when we followed ourselves into rooms within ourselves and lost ourselves.  The 90s were a time when we lost time.  The 90s were a time when we discovered a time full of things we lost but had forgotten we lost them.  Because we thought we had them.

Dad, the 90s, when “Friends” was on.

-Indeed.  The closest people to us were strangers, and our best friends turned out to be people we had never met.  Sometimes we went into a dark room and turned on a light and for an instant had a glimpse of our own face.  It wasn’t in a mirror, it was a certain look on the face of people we were afraid to admit we loved.  In the 90s.
