a: i just realized that human beings are prisoners of imaginary prisons — they believe they have no freedom but they do — all they have to do is realize that

b: you’re right.  shut up!  if they ever find that out they will go nuts

What’s the big deal about freedom? Everyone’s so keen on freedom. What gives? Sometimes people behave like freedom is not so great – like the way we treat children – but no one really admits it because you can’t say a word against freedom. But really, has anyone ever come up with a reason why we like it so much?

No, that’s not it. I mean, it is but there’s more. You’ve made it sound like the opposite of freedom is bad prison, but the opposite is just prison. What if it’s a lovely prison? You could rephrase your comment like this: If you’re free then you’ll do stuff you want to do even if it’s bad for you.

The best free choices are the ones where you choose your cage wisely.

      • I have more incentive to do what’s good for me and more intimate knowledge of what it is that’s good for me than a jailer. And even a wise good jailer might die and leave his keys to someone else who might not be so wise and good.
